The CoOperators called and said we can start using the stove. They didn't inspect it so I'm not sure what the deal is. We'll start a fire one night this week to see how it works.

Last night and on the weekend we worked on the stair plans. We don't work well together for some reason. Donnie says it is because I'm stubborn but I might say the same thing about him. Dad and Donnie were going to start implementing the plans today but the weather was warm and they finished the outside work on the well.

Donnie finished installing the woodstove and Kenny finished the chimney. Now we just need to wait for the OK from the CoOperators to put a fire on.

The HRV people came today and got the rough in done. There was only once place it couldn't be hidden and Donnie decided to do it beside the window in the 2nd floor loft. We'll have to build a bookshelf or something there to cover it but it's the perfect place for a little window seat anyway.

We called Trent to let him know the well line was in and he could come backfill. He won't be able to do it for a few weeks but I'd like to be home that day anyway. It looks like we'll have a full day of work for him including backfilling the well, finishing the house backfilling, moving some rocks around, filling the test holes, a little driveway work and digging a pond if we need the topsoil.

Donnie, Isaac and I spent the day working at the house after Isaac and I spending Saturday at a goat meeting and MCNS annual meeting. Donnie got the framing done for the loft above the stairs. I marked the baseboard heaters on the framing for wiring later in the week. The HRV people were supposed to come yesterday but had to postpone.

The plumber was here! He did the majority of the rough-in work. The piping come down from the bathroom into the kitchen sticks out into the room further than I expected so I'll need to think about how that will work for the kitchen layout. I don't want the fridge up against the window but the pipes are pretty close to that.

Otherwise, the plumbing looks good and we're on our way to getting there!

The first snowfall! The house seemed quiet and still in the wind but there is a window leaking. Kenny will come out next week to troubleshoot and we'll wait for the next rain.

Donnie and I spent the day at the house working on the walls around the upper stairwell. We had to leave space in the framing for vents into the bedroom. We're hoping to use the iron grate from the house in Millsville as a wall vent b/c it won't work with the negineered floor trusses as a floor vent.

November 7, 2007

Donnie and Dad and Isaac worked today at the house. I think they've finished up with the strapping on the roof for the insulation. They completely wired the basement and they wired some of the upstairs. Isaac helped with wiring his room.

We still have no power on this road. We met with a new plumber to get an estimate for him to take over the job. It has just been too long and the lack of plumbing is really holding up our progress. He should have an estimate for us tomorrow.

We survived the hurricane. The new house was quieter than the old house which makes Donnie very happy. We had no damage except that the trailer flipped over. We sort of expected that and did tie it down but it didn't matter. The biggest loss was that all the nails and screws were in boxes in the trailer and now they are emptied onto the floor and mixed together!

Just a picture of the wall in between the kitchen and entry way to give an idea of how the space will work.

We had a great sunset tonight as well.

November 1, 2007

Donnie and Dad have been working all week on stuff around the house. I'm not exactly sure what. Yesterday they battened down the hatches in anticipation of Hurricane Noel. Hopefully it won't be much but we can't risk building material being scattered everywhere or ruined.
